I remember seeing on Pinterest ages ago pumpkins carved with things like the home’s address or the family’s name. If I pinned it, I can’t find it now. A few weeks ago, the girls and I found faux pumpkins each with a single letter carved in them. They were really cute and they wanted to get them. Available in both traditional pumpkin orange and ivory, we weren’t able to find all the letters in one color or the other. Mixing them together wasn’t a look I liked. So, we passed on them. But, I kept thinking of how I loved the idea of “FISH” on pumpkins. When teal became the fall color in my house, I was then glad I wasn’t able to get the letters, but it was time to make our own family name pumpkins.

Inspiration
I’d already painted several pumpkin and fall decorations teal and it all started with a Dollar Tree pumpkin. The look was much less jarring than orange and black, but I felt like it was still missing something.

The original letters I found at The Christmas Tree Shops. When I looked online, I found I was never going to be able to spell FISH since I was not offered. Grabbing a picture from their page didn’t work too well, but the link takes you to what’s left of the letters, in orange.
Not sure what else I wanted for the living room, but wanting something for the fall season, not just Halloween, I came across thanks spelled out on pumpkins.
Before I settled, I headed back to the Dollar Tree.
Before
Styrofoam “carvable” pumpkins for only a dollar each, got my mind rolling.

I’d already been painting fall decor teal with chalk paint, why not paint a few more things?

Tip, start with painting the bottom. It took 3 coats of chalk paint to get a nice even color.
Family Name
Once I had the pumpkins painted the way I wanted, I used a pencil to write the letter on each pumpkin. A stencil would also work.

I thought about carving the letters but ultimately decided to just paint them. Confession, I tried it and didn’t like it so I went to painting!

My living room fall decor finally feels almost complete! I’m still hoping to make some pillow covers! What’s really nice is they are lightweight and won’t break if dropped. This is good since as it starts to get colder, the wood burning stove will start to get used which means they will get moved.

I see those cute little pumpkins at the store all the time and can never think of something good to do with them. Your post has given me a really good idea!
A cute idea, especially if your last name isn’t too lengthy!
Yes! That is an advantage, my maiden name has 8 letters, might be a bit lengthy! lol
That is really cute and you can never go wrong experimenting with dollar store pumpkins! Pinned
What a great idea! I love the alternative fall colors!
These turned out so cute, and I love the color that you chose. I’ve been seeing a lot of new colors for Fall this year over the traditional oranges, browns and reds. They look great on your fireplace with the other colors spread around the room. I can’t wait to see the pillows!
Dollar Tree is the best. The little pumpkins look so pretty in the soft color. They can easily be a family heirloom since they have the family name. It is a very nice idea.
I love your colors for fall, Emily. Your family name pumpkins look great and the room is lovely.
They look great, the colour is amazing and the painting letters idea seems a lot simpler than trying to carve!
Your teal fall decor looks so pretty. What a great idea to do your name on pumpkins, it’s perfect. It’s amazing what you can do with those dollar store pumpkins.
Wow! love the teal pumpkins. I think your project looks great!
How lovely your living room looks. I like that you decided to go for an unusual fall color scheme. I love me some coastal decor and those teal Elements fit right in.
This is one of the best ways I have ever seen to use those Dollar Store foam pumpkins. Love the color you painted them! #HomeMattersParty
I love them too, my son isn’t thrilled that nothing is scary thought. But, I don’t have to redecorate until after Thanksgiving!
