Until a little over a year ago, I didn’t consider myself good at making wreaths. Now I finally feel confident in wreath making. Confident enough not to go with a traditional wreath for the 12 Days of Christmas. Instead, I made a front door stocking. I’m actually giddy with how excited I am about this! And more buffalo check! The buffalo check doormat I splurged on a few weeks ago is really earning its keep tying everything together.

Front Door Stocking Wreath

I knew when I saw this giant burlap stocking from Burlap Fabric it would make a great front door stocking wreath. And the awesome thing is they sent me two!

A few weeks ago I snagged three black and white buffalo check table cloths on clearance at Walmart. For only $2.50, each is a large piece of nice fabric. From one end of a table cloth, I cut off 9″, making sure I had a nice finished edge.

Hot glue easily secures the cloth to the stocking. The band on the stocking is about 7″ so I glued the fabric just slightly longer. Tucking the cut edges inside, hot glue makes this totally no sew. I enjoy sewing but hot glue is so much easier for things like this.

Next, I stuffed the stocking with bubble wrap and plastic bags to give it more dimension.

Finally, I cut a piece of floral foam to fit the top of the stocking. This way I could easily add floral picks and be sure they stay arranged the way I want.

Remember how I said Burlap Fabric sent me 2 of these? Well, I need to get more floral pics for the second one! My front door stocking used more than I expected.

I love the way the arrangement turned out. The “Happy Holidays” plaque is actually a clip-on Christmas ornament I snagged on clearance last year.

Our front porch has a large blank wall… well, just siding, no windows or anything architectural. I’ve been looking for ways to dress this space up and this is the perfect addition above the bench.

Two will look even better. The second stocking is just waiting for floral pics. And, for it to be after Thanksgiving! I refuse to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. This year will probably be the earliest I will start decorating. My in-laws will be here and I’m going to have the kids decorate the tree with them… after the turkey is eaten, however.

  1. Your stocking is adorable. The buffalo check looks so petty on the burlap stocking. What a great find at Wal Mart. Your front door must look amazing with your stocking and rug.
